Why we exsit?

One of the most actively discussed—and vigorously debated—issues since the late 1980s has been the declining social, economic, and educational status of young men of color in our society.  In Baltimore City, Maryland, the challenges facing this demographic group are particularly glaring. Young males need the fine-tuning and opportunities to grow as successful individuals. This program will do just that for them. It will allow them to gather with young men of color such as themselves, bi-weekly, learning more and more about well roundedness and the power within taking A.C.T.I.O.N. The Boys n A.C.T.I.O.N. program is needed in order to provide a safe environment for these young men, a positive setting where older individuals will act as mentors, role models, and ultimately allow these young men to mature as better members of society. The Boys n A.C.T.I.O.N. program is needed, because it is simply one of a kind. Only positive and good spirits will result from those who attend. Advocacy, Community, Teamwork, Integrity, Optimism, and Nobility, are all seen as routes needed in order to function and grasp a deeper understanding of the world, as these young boys grow into adulthood; the transitional requirements and expectations of high school can be a huge shock for many, but these guys will be well equipped and prepared for it all when that time comes.

What does Boys n A.C.T.I.O.N stand for:

  • Advocacy – Our gentlemen represent young African-American boys that write letters to their Congressman, Mayor, City Counsel, and actively engage with concerns that effect Baltimore City neighborhoods and schools

  • Community - Baltimore City is considered a food desert and our boys will partner with local urban farmers to create a community garden that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to community members at local farmers markets.

  • Teamwork – These gentlemen work together as a team to perform step shows in Baltimore to spread the word about A.C.T.I.O.N and what community members can do to make Baltimore a better place.

  • Integrity – Owning self “Doing what gentlemen should even when no one’s watching

  • Optimism – Breaking barriers by creating and maintaining positive images of African-American males in society.

  • Nobility – Adding to the positive legacy created by trailblazing African-American men
